Amid backlash over logos and renovations, Cracker Barrel announced it will close 14 company-owned restaurants in the coming year. The closures aren’t of the signature Cracker Barrell locations but rather a smaller offshoot with locations in Alabama – Maple Street Biscuit Company.
The Street reported 14 Maple Street Biscuit Company locations will close in fiscal 2026, which starts Oct. 1, 2025. Cracker Barrel acquired the brand, which offers a breakfast-focused menu with biscuits, waffles, bowls and specialty beverages, in 2019 for $36 million.
At the time of the deal, Maple Street operated 28 company-owned and five franchised locations across seven states, The Street reported. As of August, that had expanded to 68 locations but no new ones have opened in the fourth quarter of 2025 and two closed.
The locations set for closure haven’t been announced.
In Alabama, Maple Street locations are in Madison, Birmingham, Mobile and Daphne.
Cracker Barrel had also reduced its forecast for new Maple Street locations from 9 to 11 to 8 to 10 by the end of 2024 as it pivoted towards investing in its core business.
The slowdown comes at a pivotal moment for the down-home restaurant chain. It experienced major pushback after unveiling a new logo – plans it eventually abandoned – and later said it was suspending all remodeling efforts after customers said they didn’t like the stripped-down décor.
Maple Street started in Jacksonville, Florida in 2012.
