1:14 — Evan Johnson ices the ballgame.
BYU’s top cornerback intercepted Rocco Becht to allow the Cougars to kneel out the clock. BYU 41, Iowa State 27.
13:40 — Everything is coming up Cougars.
On the second Iowa State play after Kingston’s touchdown, Faletau Satuala intercepted Rocco Becht and returned it for a touchdown of his own. BYU 41, Iowa State 27.
Since trailing 24-10 with under two minutes to play in the first half, the Cougars have gone on a 31-3 run.
14:21 — Have a day, Parker Kingston.
BYU’s speedster made BYU’s catch of the season for a 27-yard touchdown — his second of the game — to put the Cougars ahead by seven. BYU 34, Iowa State 27.
A muffed punt recovered by Mory Bamba allowed BYU move upfield and set up the long TD to Kingston on third down.
Bear Bachmeier has now thrown for 304 yards. Kingston has six catches for 130 yards and two scores.
Third quarter
BYU 27, Iowa State 27
1:47 — It’s officially a shootout.
Iowa State ties the game at 27 points apiece with a 43-yard field goal. BYU 27, Iowa State 27.
4:33 — Bear is back on the loose.
Bachmeier found the end zone for his ninth rushing score of the season to put the Cougars their first lead of the day. BYU 27, Iowa State 24.
BYU converted two fourth downs to keep the drive alive, traveling 79 yards on 11 plays before Bachmeier’s touchdown.
With LJ Martin out, the Cougars have leaned more on Bachmeier’s arm than ever before, as the freshman has already matched his previous career high with 29 passing attempts.
10:52 — Will Ferrin kicks a 27-yard field goal to open the second half scoring. Iowa State 24, BYU 17.
The Cougars drove down into the red zone but sputtered late, though Bear Bachmeier’s passing on the drive was impressive and should inspire confidence in the offense’s ability to move the ball today without LJ Martin.
BYU’s defense will now look to rebound from a sloppy first half. Iowa State has scored on four out of its five true possessions, only failing to put points on the board when Rocco Becht was intercepted in BYU territory.
Halftime
Iowa State 24, BYU 17
Second quarter
Iowa State 24, BYU 17
0:25 — Don’t count out the Cougars just yet.
Bear Bachmeier led BYU down the field in just 80 seconds to score before halftime, as Parker Kingston hauled in a 12-yard touchdown pass to cut the deficit to seven points once again. Iowa State 24, BYU 17.
Kingston has caught four passes for 84 yards thus far today, along with rushing once for 12 yards. Bachmeier is 10 of 16 in passing for 176 yards, as BYU will need to lean on his arm more than ever now with LJ Martin sidelined.
The Cougars will receive the second half kickoff for the chance to tie this ballgame.
1:52 — BYU’s nightmare continues.
Iowa State scored yet again, this time on a 3-yard touchdown from Carson Hansen to cap a 12-play, 80-yard drive. Iowa State 24, BYU 10.
The Cyclones are now up to 324 yards of offense in the first half, with BYU in serious danger of losing its 2025 unbeaten status and being blown out for the first time in nearly two years.
8:59 — Will Ferrin makes a 50-yard field goal to cut the deficit to a touchdown. Iowa State 17, BYU 10.
While the Cougars have inched closer, the loss of LJ Martin for the remainder of the game will make BYU’s path forward extremely complicated.
11:10 — BYU’s defense is alive.
After being gashed all afternoon thus far, the Cougars finally made a stop as defensive end Logan Lutui dropped into coverage and picked off Rocco Becht in BYU territory. Iowa State 17, BYU 7.
Lutui is the seventh Cougars player to record an interception in 2025, doing so partially thanks to Keanu Tanuvasa tipping the ball at the line of scrimmage.
First quarter

1:00 — The Cyclones can’t be stopped.
Iowa State extended its lead to 10 points on a 2-yard touchdown run from Carson Hansen. Iowa State 17, BYU 7.

8:05 — Iowa State pulls ahead once again.
The Cyclones kicked a 36-yard field goal to cap an 11-play, 57-yard scoring drive. Iowa State 10, BYU 7.
BYU’s defense has struggled to stop the well-rested and efficient Iowa State offense out of the gate. How the Cougars adjust and respond throughout the afternoon will be critical.
12:13 — BYU answers right back.
The Cougars marched down the field to tie the ballgame once again, with LJ Martin bouncing outside and shedding contact for a 4-yard rushing touchdown. BYU 7, Iowa State 7.
The hero of the drive was Chase Roberts, who accounted for 59 of BYU’s 68 yards on the drive with a pair of receptions, including one for 45 yards.
Now the Cougar defense will take the field again looking to rebound from their concerning initial showing.
14:51 — And just like that, Iowa State is on the board.
The Cyclones scored on their first play of the day, as Rocco Becht found a wide open Brett Eskildsen for a 75-yard touchdown. Iowa State 7, BYU 0.
There was no BYU cornerback lined up to cover Eskildsen, who slipped downfield past Faletau Satuala to haul in the deep pass and run about 40 yards after the catch into the end zone.
