Costco recall: How to get a refund for dangerous Kirkland Prosecco

Costco is warning customers about a potentially harmful issue with one of its products that led to the item being recalled. In a letter sent to customers, the warehouse chain says bottles of its Kirkland Signature Prosecco Valdobbiadene can shatter without warning, even when not being handled.

The recalled sparkling wine was sold between April 25, 2025, and August 26, 2025, at Costco locations in Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Minnesota, Michigan, Missouri, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. The recalled product can be identified by the item number 1879870, according to the company.

If you have purchased any of the bottles, Costco says you should discard the product immediately. The company also provides specific instructions on how to safely get rid of the product.

Costco suggests that you wrap the bottle in a paper towel, place it in a plastic bag, and throw it in the garbage.

Customers who purchased the sparkling wine are entitled to a full refund and are asked not to return the bottles to a store. Customers were sent letters explaining the recall and should bring the letter with them to their nearest Costco to receive a refund.

The company did not say whether any injuries have been caused by the issue.

Customers with questions or concerns may contact Ethica Wines at 786-810-7132, Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. EST.
