U.S. Sen. Cory Booker on Tuesday announced his engagement on Instagram.
“I’m thrilled to share: Alexis and I are engaged!” the New Jersey Democrat, 56, said in the post. “I am savoring the soul-affirming wonder of everyday life with my partner, best friend, and now my fiancée.”
Booker’s fiancée is Alexis Lewis, an employee at a real estate investment firm, according to an aide.
The two met on a blind date set up by a mutual friend and have been dating for about 16 months, the aide said.
Booker previously dated actress Rosario Dawson for just over two years before the couple split in 2022, according to People Magazine. He and Dawson met at a political fundraiser for a mutual friend in 2018 but did not start dating until later, according to People.
A former Newark mayor, Booker has represented New Jersey in the Senate since 2013 and is up for re-election next year. He is also considered a potential presidential candidate in 2028.
