Milwaukee, Wisconsin – A driver who crashed into a vehicle, killing a college lacrosse player from Upstate New York and a teammate, was drunk, according to police.
The crash last Friday in Milwaukee killed Noah Snyder, 20, of Irving, a community south of Buffalo. The sophomore played lacrosse for Marquette University.
Snyder, a member of the Seneca Nation, also played for the Haudenosaunee Nationals U20 team. He recently played at the World Lacrosse Men’s U20 Championship on Jeju Island, Korea.
Snyder also played for the Rochester Jr. Knighthawks of the National Lacrosse League.
The other player killed was Scott Michaud, 19, of Springboro, Ohio. Four teammates in the car were injured.
The driver of the other car, Amandria J. Brunner, 41, of West Allis, Wisconsin, was charged with two counts of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle while having a prior intoxicant-related conviction, according to a criminal complaint.
Brunner was convicted of operating while intoxicated in 2003, according to the complaint.
Brunner was driving a Ford Ranger when she turned left and struck the Jeep Grand Cherokee carrying the six lacrosse players, according to the complaint.
Video recovered by Milwaukee police shows the Ford entering the intersection while the traffic light was yellow and colliding with the Jeep, which entered the intersection at “a high rate of speed,” according to the complaint.
Snyder and Michaud, who were both passengers in the rear seat of the Jeep, were pronounced dead at the scene of “multiple blunt force injuries.”
Brunner told officers on the scene that she had two drinks – Steel Reserve malt liquor – prior to the crash, according to the complaint. Police observed that she had “bloodshot and glassy eyes, slurred speech, and difficulty keeping her balance.”
Brunner was placed under arrest when she showed “multiple clues of impairment,” according to the complaint.
When police searched Brunner’s vehicle, they found one open can of Miller High Life beer behind the passenger’s seat.
A blood sample analysis found that Brunner blood alcohol content was 0.133%, according to the complaint. In Wisconsin, a BAC of more than 0.08% is DWI.
