Clutch Finish Lifts 49ers Over Cardinals; 5 Takeaways from #AZvsSF

CMC’s Versatility on Display

The All-Pro back Christian McCaffrey remained the engine of the 49ers offense. He posted 52 rushing yards between the tackles and picked up 88 yards as a receiver, including a 20-yard catch in the final drive to set up Piñeiro’s game-winner.

“He battled,” head coach Kyle Shanahan said. “He did a lot of good things in the run game and the pass game, but that’s how Christian is to me every day of his life. Very grateful to have him.”

Resilient Finish After Late Mistakes

The 49ers looked in control after Juszczyk’s touchdown made it 13-6, but a few mistakes gave Arizona hope. A defensive pass interference set up a Cardinals score, and Jones was intercepted on the next series. After surrendering a safety, San Francisco trailed 15-13 with under two minutes to play. Jones stepped up and led a march downfield, hitting Kendrick Bourne, McCaffrey, and Pearsall before leaving it to Piñeiro.

Piñeiro Delivers in Home Debut

Piñeiro delivered the 49ers biggest kick of the season so far. The veteran went 3-for-3 on field goals, including the 35-yard game-winner as time expired. Piñeiro’s steady leg was the difference in a one-point game.
