City of the Wolves pays homage to intro in Capcom vs. SNK 2

The SNK World Championship 2025 Finals has been happening over this past weekend. During the event, an animation featuring a battle between Chun-Li and Mai Shiranui was featured, which celebrated Chun-Li’s addition to Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves.

Towards the beginning of the trailer, it would appear that Chun-Li as actually engaged in a mirror match against herself. The other Chun-Li adopts the character’s signature fight pose, but this ends up prompting a shrug from the real Chun-Li before she also adopts the pose.

Based on this mannerism, it would appear that Chun-Li is well aware of what’s going on here. Evidently, this is something that she’s seen before.

After the other Chun-Li performs one last taunt, she then reveals that she’s really Mai Shiranui. Following this, the real battle is then able to begin.

The animation ends with a final clash between Chun-Li and Mai Shiranui. As expected, no winner is outright declared during the animation since both characters are shown to be evenly matched.

It turns out that this animation is a homage to the intro cinematic that can play when Chun-Li is matched up against Mai Shiranui in Capcom vs. SNK 2. Just like with the animation, Mai ends up imitating Chun-Li before revealing herself. This ends up prompting a laugh from Chun-Li herself, suggesting a friendly rivalry between the two.
