Christopher Meloni is the first addition to Dan Fogelman‘s upcoming Hulu series set in the world of pro football, Variety has learned exclusively.
The untitled series was originally announced in October 2024. Exact plot and character details are being kept mostly under wraps, aside from the fact the show is set inside the world of the NFL with a generational family component. Meloni will play the head coach of a team.
Meloni is no stranger to the world of football, as he was the quarterback of his high school team at St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes School in Virginia. In 2007, he and the team were inducted into the school’s hall of fame for their undefeated season in 1978. More recently, he appeared in the Kansas City Chiefs scripted series “The Magic Number” and has provided voice overs for NFL advertisements on Peacock.
Meloni is best known for his role as Elliot Stabler in the “Law & Order” franchise. He originated the character on “Law & Order: SVU” before reprising it in “Law & Order: Organized Crime.” The latter show debuted on NBC in 2021 before moving to Peacock for its fifth season, which launched in April 2025. Meloni has also starred in shows like “Oz” at HBO, “Happy!” at Syfy, “Underground” for WGN America, and both “Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp” and “Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later” at Netflix. In film, Meloni is known for “Wet Hot American Summer,” “Man of Steel,” and “Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle.”

Fogelman is the writer and executive producer on the series. Jess Rosenthal also exeuctive produces along with David Ellison, Jesse Sisgold, and Jason T. Reed for Skydance Sports. 20th Television will produce. Fogelman is currently under an overall deal at 20th TV.
This is the second series Fogelman has at Hulu. He is also the creator of the drama series “Paradise” starring Sterling K. Brown and James Marsden, which is currently prepping its second season. He serves as an executive producer on the popular Hulu series “Only Murders in the Building” as well.
