The San Francisco 49ers have released their latest injury designations ahead of Sunday’s regular-season opener against the Seattle Seahawks. The biggest question mark remains around running back Christian McCaffrey, who was listed as questionable with a calf issue.
McCaffrey was a limited participant in Thursday’s practice before sitting out Friday’s session. Head coach Kyle Shanahan confirmed the injury surfaced late in the week. The 49ers also listed wide receiver Jordan Watkins (ankle) and running back Jordan James (finger) as doubtful for Sunday. Both were limited in Thursday’s practice and will be evaluated further before gameday.
On a positive note, Shanahan shared that defensive end Yetur Gross-Matos (knee) is “good to go” after progressing through the week without setbacks. Wide receiver Jauan Jennings, who managed a calf issue earlier in camp, was limited in practice this week and is expected to be ready for Sunday’s matchup.
“Jauan’s had a real good week,” Shanahan said. “Got a number of good workouts over the weekend which adds to the conditioning. We had our fourth practice today. So, I think he’s gotten better and better throughout the week and we’re excited to see him out there on Sunday.”
The 49ers added depth to the running back room ahead of Week 1 with the signing of Brian Robinson Jr. While the veteran back is still learning the system, Shanahan noted he is fully prepared for the Week 1 game plan alongside Isaac Guerendo.
