Christian McCaffrey couldn’t be shutdown

Heroes and zeros of the Giants’ 34-24 loss to the 49ers on Sunday at MetLife Stadium:

Hero

Christian McCaffrey carried 26 times for 97 yards and added five catches for 67 yards. He scored touchdowns on the ground and through the air as the game’s leading rusher and receiver.

Zero

Graham Gano missed a 45-yard field goal after Brian Burns and Abdul Carter combined to force a takeaway and give the Giants a short field in the final minute of the first half. Conservative play calling brought out the lightning rod Gano, who hooked his kick wide left.

Key Stat

39: Yards gained on 18 plays by the Giants on their final six possessions of the first half, resulting in one first down and zero points after a game-opening 10-play, 59-yard touchdown drive.
