Christian Bale, Jessie Buckley in Frankenstein Movie

She’s alive! Warner Bros. Pictures has released the first trailer for Maggie Gyllenhaal’s monster movie “The Bride,” starring Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale.

The film’s official synopsis reads: “A lonely Frankenstein travels to 1930s Chicago to seek the aid of a Dr. Euphronius in creating a companion for himself. The two reinvigorate a murdered young woman and the Bride is born. She is beyond what either of them intended, igniting a combustible romance, the attention of the police and a wild and radical social movement.”

Inspired by James Whale’s “Bride of Frankenstein” and Mary Shelley’s 1818 “Frankenstein” novel, “The Bride” stars Buckley in the titular role, while Bale plays Frankenstein’s monster. The cast also includes Penélope Cruz as Myrna, Annette Bening, Peter Sarsgaard, Julianne Hough and Jake Gyllenhaal.

In April 2024, Maggie Gyllenhaal posted first look photos, including a camera test with Bale in full Frankenstein makeup. The film’s crew includes “Joker” cinematographer Lawrence Sher, “Cinderella” costume designer Sandy Powell and “Elvis” production designer Karen Murphy. “The Bride” is Gyllenhaal’s second directorial effort, following 2021’s “The Lost Daughter,” which nabbed three Academy Award nominations and also starred Buckley and Sarsgaard.

Gyllenhaal’s “The Bride” is one of several Frankenstein films on the way, including a version at Netflix directed by Guillermo del Toro starring “Euphoria” and “Saltburn” star Jacob Elordi as the reanimated monster. Del Toro’s film also stars Oscar Isaac, Mia Goth, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley Christian Convery, Charles Dance and Christoph Waltz.

Warner Bros. is set to release “The Bride” in theaters on March 6, 2026.
