Chicago P.D. is down an officer.
At least on TV.
Deadline reported Wednesday that Patrick John Flueger, one of the stars of NBC’s popular police drama Chicago P.D., is taking a leave of absence to deal with a personal matter.
The temporary departure was unexpected, and scripts are being reworked to reflect Flueger’s absence, Deadline reported, but Flueger is expected to return later in the season.
Now in its 13th season, the series follows the personal and professional lives of the uniformed patrol officers and the Intelligence Unit of the 21st District of the Chicago Police Department as they pursue the perpetrators of the city’s major street offenses.
It is part of the Chicago franchise that also includes Chicago Fire, Chicago Med and Chicago Justice.
Flueger is an original cast member of the show that premiered in 2014. He plays Adam Ruzek, a young police officer recruited straight out of the academy to do undercover work.
Deadline reported that Flueger has been going through a difficult period, with an instance of alcohol use on set.
Season 13 of Chicago P.D. premiered on Oct. 1.
