Charlie Sheen’s daughter Sami Sheen learns dad got sober for her

Charlie Sheen‘s explanation for what finally inspired him to sober up was his daughter Sami — and she had an emotional response to hearing it.

“I didn’t know I was the reason he got sober,” the 21-year-old daughter that Sheen shares with ex-wife Denise Richards wrote Thursday on TikTok.

“I still get asked in the streets here and there if there’s one moment I can point to as the final straw that broke my camel,” Sheen, who struggled with addiction for years, wrote in The Book of Sheen: A Memoir, which arrived in bookstores Tuesday. “It usually gets a laugh when I tell them it’s really hard to choose one, with that many bales to pick through.”

But if the Two and a Half Men star is honest about it, he remembers the precise moment: “It was December 10, 2017, and by 9 a.m. I was on my third [whiskey]-spiked coffee. My phone rang and when I picked up, it was my daughter Sam asking what time we were leaving. S—; her appointment that day had slipped my mind.”

Sheen had a friend take him and Sami, who was 13 at the time, where she needed to go.

“On the drive back to my house, Sam was very quiet,” Sheen wrote, “and I could see her back there from the two angles I had — the visor’s vanity mirror as well as the side view on my right. I didn’t need to be clairvoyant to know exactly what she was thinking. ‘Why is Dad not driving — again? Why isn’t it just the two of us in the car like it used to be? When will that moment ever return? When will Dad ever return? I miss him.'”

Sheen admitted, “I missed him too. There was only one thing that felt worse than betraying myself, and that was failing my children. In that car, on that day, with my best friend and a child I adore, I joined Sam in those mirrors and saw a guy who was desperate to finally come home for real.”

Sheen and his daughter have been estranged as of late, but he, at least, has hope they will reconnect.

“As long as everybody is still in the game, there’s always a shot for a better tomorrow,” Sheen said on Good Morning America while promoting both the book and his new Netflix documentary, aka Charlie Sheen, last Friday. “I don’t really know what I did. That’s the problem. I don’t know what I’m supposed to apologize for. But I have absolute faith that this is not a forever thing.”

He added, “Her and I will work it out. It’s too valuable to let some moment destroy all of that.”

Sheen is also the father of Cassandra Jade Estevez, 40, whom he shares with Paula Profit; another daughter with Richards, 20-year-old Lola; and 16-year-old twin sons Bob and Max, whose mom is ex-wife Brooke Mueller.
