The grim first, full-length trailer for Monster: The Ed Gein Story is here.

The third season of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s hit Monster anthology series stars Charlie Hunnam as notorious murderer and grave robber Ed Gein. Set to debut on Netflix on Oct. 3, the new series traces Gein’s path to becoming the criminal he’s known as — which, in turn, led the United States to a “cultural obsession with the criminally deviant.”

“In the frozen fields of 1950s rural Wisconsin, a friendly, mild-mannered recluse named Eddie Gein lived quietly on a decaying farm – hiding a house of horrors so gruesome it would redefine the American nightmare,” the third season’s logline reads. “Driven by isolation, psychosis, and an all-consuming obsession with his mother, Gein’s perverse crimes birthed a new kind of monster that would haunt Hollywood for decades.”

In the first trailer for the Netflix anthology series’ latest installment, set to Pet Shop Boys’ “It’s A Sin,” someone notes that “there’s something real dark about you, Eddie Gein,” as Hunnam’s character moves within a dark room. Another person notes that he’s “a mess.”

“Only a mother could love you,” the second person adds.

After several relatively normal visuals appear, including Ed at a roller rink and sitting at a diner across two women (both of whom appear to suspect something is wrong with him), the trailer then cuts to Ed getting on top of a corpse. We then get his first line from the trailer, as he asks the deceased individual, “Is this okay?”

The clip includes moments of Hunnam’s Ed dancing about while dressed up and wearing the skin of deceased people. “I just feel like I am a puzzle, and none of the pieces fit,” Ed says.

Toward the trailer’s end, someone fearfully asks Ed, “What did you do?”

“You’re the one who can’t look away,” Ed ominously adds.

The notorious murderer was widely known for exhuming human remains and using them as everyday items and clothing. The macabre nature of his crimes is believed to be the inspiration behind several horror films, like Psycho, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and The Silence of the Lambs.

Hunnam, 45, stars alongside Tom Hollander, Laurie Metcalf, Suzanna Son, with Vicky Krieps, Olivia Williams, Lesley Manville, Addison Rae, Joey Pollari, Charlie Hall, Tyler Jacob Moore, Mimi Kennedy, Will Brill and Robin Weigert filling out the cast.
