Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker has landed his next Netflix project.
Brooker is behind an untitled four-part detective series starring House of the Dragon lead Paddy Considine, Game of Thrones star Lena Headey and Georgina Campbell, who worked with Brooker on Black Mirror’s “Hang the DJ” episode.
The show’s logline calls it a “profoundly serious, stunningly original crime thriller in which a tormented detective from the Northern city of Bleakford ventures down to London on a mission to catch a ritualistic serial killer before they run out of people to kill. Contains blood and frowning.”
The term “profoundly serious” is clearly being used tongue in cheek and Brooker’s quote about the show reads: “I’m beyond thrilled to be saying these words for the press release. I’ve dreamt of providing a quote ever since I was a young foetus, and now here I am doing it. I’d pinch myself, but like all of us, I’m terrified that if I do that, I might wake up and discover 2025 has all been a magical dream. Please watch my show. I am begging you.”
No more plot details were forthcoming. Brooker previously made 2011’s A Touch of Cloth for Sky, a spoof British cop drama starring John Hannah and Suranne Jones.
Brooker created the untitled detective series and has written with Ben Caudell, Jason Hazeley, Emer Kenny, Daniel Maier and Joel Morris, with additional material by Victoria Asare Archer. Brooker is also executive producing alongside Black Mirror EPs Annabel Jones and Jessica Rhoades. Mark Kinsella is co-EP, Richard Webb is producer and Al Campbell is directing.
The show will be produced by Netflix, a spokesman for the streamer said, rather than a specific British production company. Several weeks back, we revealed Brooker and Jones had left their Netflix-owned production company Broke & Bones after five years. Deadline first revealed the $100M agreement in 2020, which we noted at the time was structured over five years.
Black Mirror Season 7 was Brooker’s previous Netflix project and launched in April 2025. Episodes featured the likes of Rashida Jones, Issa Rae and Paul Giamatti. No word yet on Season 8.
