Chad Powers Breakout Star Perry Mattfeld Was Born for This Role

You filmed in Atlanta, which can be so hot and humid. How was that while pregnant?

Atlanta was awesome, but you just didn’t have a choice [when it comes to the weather]. You just got to go. Every once in a while, I just had a little towel in my pocket, and right before we roll, I just kind of patted it on my face.

How much did you love Ricky’s look? And what’d you think of the visor?

I love the athleticwear. I even was so specific to the point where I was like, “I need her to be wearing an Apple Watch.” I was like, “She’s a macros-micros nutrition person.” I love that this is a different look and a little bit of a more conservative, cleaner, minimalist, especially coming from a heroin addict to this. I loved that I get to be in A comfortable, cute outfit you wear every day at work. It’s awesome. And if you’re a coach, you’ve got to wear a visor. You look at college football, everybody’s wearing a visor. So that was automatically part of the uniform.

Let’s play some rapid-fire questions. What was your beverage and snack of choice on set?

Well, it wasn’t coffee, unfortunately. I was trying to limit myself on caffeine, but I actually drank a lot of LMNT for the electrolytes because it was so hot. Snack of choice? I ate probably six Chomps a day just to get that quick protein. So yeah, electrolytes and Chomps of assorted flavors.

Is there a makeup product or hair trick that you learned on set and are obsessed with now?

I was introduced to brown mascara, and now it’s a staple in my life. It’s a little secret to look like you’re not wearing makeup. I believe we used Glossier brown mascara.

If you were to have a superlative on set, what would it be?

It’s so funny because this is not what I would want my answer to be, but because I was pregnant, I was so ravenous. Now everybody knows why, but I was eating constantly. I’m sure some of the cast would say that my superlative would be “always eating.” But I would hope they would say I’m a goofball because I don’t take myself very seriously. We just had so much fun.

The first two episodes of Chad Powers are now streaming on Hulu. New episodes will premiere every Tuesday, with the season finale airing on October 28.
