Cam Ward gets into training camp brouhaha in heated Titans practice

Cam Ward is ready for the action to begin.

The Titans quarterback, the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, got into a training camp tussle with defensive lineman Jeffery Simmons on Monday.

Ward, celebrating a touchdown pass to receiver Calvin Ridley, gave Simmons a shove before doing his “Zombieland” celebration — a move that earned him a two-handed push to the facemask and brought out the offensive line to the quarterback’s defense.

“It’s simple,” tackle Dan Moore Jr. told reporters. “Nobody touches our quarterback. Period.”

Ward, on the other hand, didn’t miss a play, though the practice came to an end just two plays later as coach Brian Callahan had the Titans run.

Neither Ward nor Simmons, Tennessee’s first-round pick in 2019, were made available after the session concluded.

The tussle was nothing that worried their teammates, who are preparing for one last preseason tune-up against the Vikings on Friday before the Titans’ regular season begins on Sept. 7 against the Broncos in Denver.

“You never want to see your quarterback in the middle of those kinds of things,” cornerback Jarvis Brownlee Jr. said. “But when it does happen, it shows you the kind of dog he has in him. He ain’t going to take nothing.

“You get that same attitude, confidence, that same edge every day out of those two guys. That’s what you expect. But when it does happen with the quarterback you gotta break it up as soon as possible. But brothers fight.”
