Bucks Make NBA History with Giannis, All 3 Antetokounmpo Brothers Being Under Contract

The Milwaukee Bucks agreed to a two-way contract with Alex Antetokounmpo, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.

Alex joins brothers Giannis and Thanasis in Milwaukee, with Charania noting this is the first time in NBA history that one team has had three brothers under contract.

Alex made 50 appearances from 2022-24 with the Wisconsin Herd, the Bucks’ NBA G League affiliate. He averaged 5.8 points and three rebounds per contest.

It’s safe to assume family connections are the driving force behind the team’s decision to sign the 24-year-old.

Charania reported in May that Giannis Antetokounmpo was evaluating all of his options after Milwaukee experienced a first-round playoff exit for the third straight year. While the two-time MVP didn’t press the issue beyond that, speculation over his future continues.

Having Alex in Milwaukee — or plying his trade with the Herd — presumably won’t persuade Antetokounmpo to stick around if the Bucks are falling short of expectations on the court.

But any smart franchise knows small gestures can go a long way with marquee stars. General manager Jon Horst is right to go above and beyond to ensure Giannis is still comfortable in his present surroundings.
