Everyone thinks they have an idea about how the Cleveland Browns quarterback competition will play out, but many variables could play a role in the next month and a half before the 2025 NFL season starts. The first, but unknown, variable is what the team’s decision makers have decided related to the Browns QB competition.
Berea was quiet on Sunday with the Cleveland training camp taking a break before starting up Week 2’s schedule on Monday. Besides WR Cedric Tillman being cleared to practice and QB Shedeur Sanders having a good day, including this highlight, nothing huge stood out from Saturday’s training camp practice in front of fans.
Sunday afternoon, however, we learned that QB Kenny Pickett was injured near the end of Saturday’s practice and will miss a few camp days before being reevaluated:
Browns QB Kenny Pickett injured his hamstring near the end of Saturday’s practice and is expected to re-evaluate the injury later this week, per sources. Pickett was coming off a strong couple of practices, per sources, and at least for the short term, there now will be more reps… pic.twitter.com/y2oxkt96fy

As noted by Zac Jackson, Pickett was active right up until the end of practice Saturday:
He threw a TD pass on the last play of practice Saturday so it either happened on that play or he was playing through it. https://t.co/CHovIp63Oj

Injuries are often a huge part of any team’s training camp. Pickett’s injury, especially if it lingers, could greatly change the dynamic of the Browns QB competition, with veteran Joe Flacco at the front, with Dillon Gabriel and Sanders now with more chances to make an impact on the coaching staff.
Hamstring injuries have a wide range of outcomes. The noted re-evaluation coming later this week seems to indicate Pickett could be facing a longer recovery than just a slight hamstring tweak.
We will keep you up to date on all rumors and reports on this injury and how it might impact Flacco, Gabriel, and Sanders.
