A number of celebrities gathered to say their goodbyes to wrestling legend Hulk Hogan on Tuesday, with Ric Flair, Theo Von and Kid Rock reportedly a part of the group of people who attended the private funeral.
One notable absence from the funeral was Brooke Hogan, Hulk Hogan’s daughter.
Brooke took to Instagram Tuesday night and shared a lengthy post revealing why she did not attend Hogan’s funeral.
“My father hated the morbidity of funerals. He didn’t want one. And although I know people grieve in many ways – and I’m so grateful for all celebrations and events organized to honor him, as his daughter, I had to make my own decision to honor him the best and most genuine way I knew how…privately…the way that made me feel the closest to him,“ Brooke Hogan said.
The post was accompanied by pictures of her, her husband Steven Oleksy, and their children Oliver Andrew and Molly Gene at the beach.
“The only thing missing today was him in is pop up lawn chair watching the waves… and the sunset,” Brooke Hogan’s post continued.
Hulk Hogan died from a heart attack on July 24. He was 71 years old.
Born Terry Gene Bollea, Hogan became one of the biggest stars in wrestling in the 1980s as professional wrestling became more and more popular.
Hogan won at least six WWE championships and was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005.
Brooke went on to say that the trip to the beach “brought us closer” to her father.
“Daddy, we honored you in the simplest way that agreed with my soul. We took our babies to the beach, and put them in the same salty waters you loved,” Brooke Hogan said. “Molly loved the water. I think she’ll be a ‘little fish,’ as you called me.
“We love you and honor the things that made you so special. Every grain of sand and every wave reminded me of being your beach baby, and brought us closer to you. I pray you are at peace and know how dearly I love you. Rest in heaven, Daddy.”
