The death of Kelly Clarkson’s ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, seems to have caused a ripple effect for people who were associated with him. The surprising news that the former talent manager was dating his ex-wife’s former assistant sent shockwaves through the Clarkson’s fanbase.
While his loved ones are in mourning, The U.S. Sun was busy researching more about Jones’ background. The media outlet confirmed that she was married to Nashville drummer Greg Goose LaPoint in 2021, and the former couple celebrated their first wedding anniversary on Sept. 11, 2022. The Instagram tribute post remains on his Instagram feed, featuring a loving tribute to Jones and a carousel of their special moments together. (You can view the post here.)

“It’s hard to believe it’s been a year since we said, ‘I do,’” LaPoint wrote in the caption. “People aren’t kidding when they say marriage is a commitment that brings a lot to the table. Something you get to experience with someone you love. I cannot imagine a world without you by my side, a partner who is as real as they come.”

He continued, “A lover, cuddler, and sure spitfire. I am forever grateful I get to call you my wife. The ups always come with the downs and as long as I am breathing, I will always be the one you can count on to lift you up. Happy 1 year anniversary, babe. I love you.”
That first anniversary post is the last image of Jones shared on LaPoint’s feed, but there are plenty of snapshots from their wedding, engagement, and several sweet birthdays. The U.S. Sun was unable to confirm if Jones and LaPoint had filed for divorce, but Jones’ LinkedIn profile revealed that she transitioned from working for Clarkson and Starstruck Entertainment to a new position as executive assistant at V Bar B Cattle Co., a Montana ranch owned by Blackstock. The career shift began in June 2020, the same month the daytime talk show host filed for divorce.
On Aug. 14, LaPoint posted a cryptic message on his Instagram Story, accompanied by a quote that could be related to the firestorm of headlines. It read, “You know what it takes to make a star shine? A s—tload of f—ing darkness.”
There are obviously a lot of questions surrounding Blackstock and Jones’ romantic timeline, but sources close to Clarkson summed up her feelings about the alleged affair.
“Brandon chose to move on with someone Kelly knew and trusted, and that just adds to the person he ended up being to her,” the insider told the Daily Mail. “He was a great father but wasn’t a great husband.”
It was a complicated situation.
