HARTFORD, Conn. (WKRC) — A company recalled bread that was sold in 12 states, including Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio.
According to the United States Food & Drug Administration (FDA), Hartford Bakery, Inc. has issued a voluntary recall of six lots of its “Lewis Bake Shop Artisan Style 1/2 Loaf” due to the presence of undeclared hazelnuts.
The recall affects products distributed across several states, including the following, per the agency:

The affected product was sold at retailers such as Kroger and Walmart, per the FDA’s notice.
The recall was initiated after the discovery that approximately 883 loaves from six production lots contained visible hazelnuts.
The packaging, which states “May Contain Tree Nuts,” failed to specify that it “Contains Hazelnuts.” An investigation revealed a packaging error, where a hazelnut-containing bread’s packaging was mistakenly used for the white bread product.
While no major injuries or illnesses have been reported, Hartford Bakery is aware of one customer who experienced digestive discomfort after consuming the product. Additionally, the company received complaints from consumers who noticed the nuts before consumption.
Consumers with nut allergies or severe sensitivities to hazelnuts are at risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reactions if they consume these products. Hartford Bakery urges customers who purchased the affected products to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
For further inquiries, consumers can contact Hartford Bakery at 1-812-425-4642, Monday through Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. CST, excluding holidays.
