The Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office deputy who was hospitalized following the shooting in Tremonton has been identified by officials.
Deputy Mike Allred was one of three officers who immediately responded to reports of a domestic disturbance at a home near 700 North and 200 East in Tremonton. He and his service dog, Azula, were both injured and hospitalized in the shooting.
The Department of Public Safety described Allred as a natural leader who prioritizes the welfare of others over his own. He has served the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office for the past five years and alongside Azula as a K9 handler for the last two years. Azula, a 3-year-old Belgian Malinois, serves as a dual-certified K9 in narcotics detection and tracking. The Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office described their partnership as “exemplary.”

After the shooting, Allred was taken to a local area hospital and Azula was taken to a veterinary clinic for care.
Allred has since been released and, as of the latest update, is recovering in “fair” condition. Meanwhile, Azula is being held at the veterinary clinic as a precaution.
“[Allred’s] actions during the incident in Tremonton exemplify his character and commitment to public service,” the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. “His primary focus is always on the safety of his fellow officers and the communities he serves.”
The Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office said it was profoundly grateful for the overwhelming support from the community and the outpouring well-wishes and concern for both Deputy Allred and Azula.
