Borderlands 4 has amassed over 2.5 million players since its September 12 launch, amounting to revenues of over $150 million.
That’s according to data shared by Alinea Analytics with GamesIndustry.biz, which also notes that the game has sold more than 1.3 million copies on Steam (amounting to over $80 million in revenue), and over one million units on console.
Borderlands 4 also surpassed 300,000 concurrent players on Steam following its launch.
Looking at Steam, over half of Borderlands 4 players are US-based, followed by China, Germany, the UK, and Canada (ranked by player country distribution).
By comparison, the US accounts for over half of players on PlayStation, followed by 5% to 8% player shares from the UK, Germany, France, and Canada.
The data firm also shared insight into how many Borderlands 4 players have played other titles in the franchise. On Steam, 59% of gamers played Borderlands 2, 51% played Borderlands 3, and 22% played Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands.
Whereas on PlayStation, where PS Plus inclusions influenced player choice, 81% played Borderlands 3, with 64% having played Borderlands: The Handsome Collection, and 50% played Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands.
Alinea Analytics also noted that “initial performance issues” of the game have dominated headlines, but predicted that this “narrative should dispel over time as the game becomes better optimised.”
In a series of X posts last week, CEO Randy Pitchford seemed to suggest that performance issues were due to players’ PC optimisation.
