GERLACH, Nev. (KOLO) – The body of a white man was found in a pool of blood at Burning Man on Saturday, Aug. 30, at 9:14 p.m., as the main event where the “Man” burns was beginning, according to a Pershing County Sheriff’s Office news release.
The body has been taken to the Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office. His identity is unknown.
“Although this act appears to be a singular crime, all participants should always be vigilant of their surroundings and acquaintances,” Pershing County Sheriff Jerry Allen said.
The incident unfolded when a Burner flagged down a deputy and reported that a man was lying in a pool of blood.
Deputies and Bureau of Land Management rangers went to the campsite and found a body lying in blood.
Law enforcement formed a perimeter around the area and began investigating. The investigation included interviewing bystanders.
The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office, Forensic Science Division, was called in to assist in processing the scene and collecting evidence.
The area of Black Rock City where the body was found will have heavy law enforcement presence until the scene can be released, the release said.
Information will be released as appropriate, the release said.
