Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 had its official gameplay reveal at Gamescom Opening Night Live, but the reception has been lukewarm to say the least.
Despite having 15 million views, the reveal trailer only has 34,000 likes at the time of writing. According to the ‘Return YouTube Dislike’ Chrome extension, it has 143,000 dislikes.
While this is a huge disparity, it’s only made worse by the trailer getting ratioed by a comment that said, “This actually made me Pre-Order Battlefield 6.” As of writing, the comment has 53,000 likes.
Most top comments are comparing the game to Battlefield 6. “From a COD player- thank you for making it easy to choose BF6,” said one reply. Another said it’s the “Best advertisement for Battlefield 6.”

Hype for Battlefield is extremely high following its beta, which broke CoD’s all-time player record on Steam, but why is the Black Ops 7 reveal trailer getting so much hate online?
Sentiment towards Call of Duty is at a notable low, especially with more and more wacky skins being added, such as the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Beavis and Butt-Head, and Stan and Roger from American Dad. The news that they will also be added to Black Ops 7 hasn’t gone down well.
The trailer was a quick overview of the new Co-Op Campaign, with its trippy, hallucinatory, futuristic style. With so much demand for Call of Duty to go back to a more grounded style, and Battlefield doing so, it’s brought a lot of comparisons.
Franchise wars will also have played a part, and the usual negativity towards Call of Duty will have contributed to the dislikes.
However, it’s worth noting that online sentiment doesn’t always reflect the overall view, and the reaction to multiplayer has mostly been very positive. It brings changes the community has been asking for for years, including Weapon Prestiging, the removal of Tactical Sprint by default, and no doors you have to interact with.
Battlefield 6 releases on October 10, then Black Ops 7 releases a little over a month later on November 14. If one thing’s for sure, the rivalry between the two FPS giants is back.
