Black Ops 7 finally addressing skill-based matchmaking with new playlist in beta

As confirmed by Treyarch on October 4, 2025, Black Ops 7‘s beta will introduce Open Moshpit, a standalone multiplayer playlist in which “skill consideration is drastically reduced” when queueing up for a match.

The use of skill-based matchmaking in Call of Duty has become a recurring pain point among the fan base for years. While the system has been around as far back as 2007’s original Modern Warfare, frequent adjustments with each iteration of the series have increasingly narrowed the gap between skill levels.

As a result, lobbies with high skill variance have become uncommon, removing the casual element from play, especially for players at the top end.

Everything you need to know about Open Moshpit

Per the October 4 Black Ops 7 beta patch notes, Open Moshpit places players in lobbies where “skill consideration is drastically reduced when matchmaking, with the goal of providing more varied match experiences and outcomes.”
