Astros acquire Carlos Correa from Twins in blockbuster deal

The Houston Astros have orchestrated a blockbuster trade to bring a familiar face back home.

With just hours before the MLB Trade Deadline, sources confirmed to KPRC 2’s Ari Alexander that the Minnesota Twins had traded shortstop Carlos Correa to the Astros.

KPRC 2 is working to iron out the details of the trade, including the package Houston is giving up.

Correa was taken by the Astros with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2012 MLB Draft. After winning AL Rookie of the Year in 2015, he spent seven seasons in Houston, playing a pivotal role in the team’s 2017 World Series title and 2019 and 2021 AL pennants.

Correa signed with the Twins in 2022 with a three-year, $105.3 million deal that made him one of baseball’s highest-paid players. In 2023, he signed an extension for six years and $200 million.

In 2025, Correa has a .267 batting average with seven home runs and 31 RBI.
