Astoundingly Ambitious PS5 RPG Crimson Desert Looks Like It'll Ease the Wait for The Witcher 4 1

An epic 13-minute gameplay demo for Crimson Desert has been released, following the game’s delay into 2026 recently.

While the setback may be disappointing, this new PS5 footage should help ease the wait. It’s clear that Korean developer Pearl Abyss has got something special cooking here.

Just to be clear, this is not an MMO, and is not to be confused with Black Desert, as it so often is. This a full-scale single player open world RPG, and it looks incredible.

This video is based on a gameplay demo that’ll be playable at Gamescom in Cologne next week, as well as PAX West later in the month.

Here’s some narrative context for the clip:

“Before this point in the story, the protagonist – the Greymane Kliff – and his fellow Greymane members are caught in an ambush orchestrated by their enemies, the Drunken Black Bears. After a fierce battle, Kliff and his comrades are separated and scattered. Kliff embarks on a search for his companions, and during his journey in the continent of Pywel, Kliff hears news that the Greymane Oongka – one of his most trusted companions – is in the region of Calphade.”

The video includes a good mix of gameplay, ranging from traversal and exploration through to fist-pumping combat. It all concludes with a boss fight against Cassius Morten, which shows off the versatility of the protagonist well.

Honestly, we’re really impressed by this. The world feels extremely alive, with NPCs wandering about everywhere, and we love how there’s various stages to the quest – including one sequence where you need to rain cannon fire down on your target.

If the developer can maintain this kind of quality over the duration of a full-length single player campaign, then this will surely be one of the generation’s defining games.

If nothing else, it’s certainly going to ease the wait until The Witcher 4.
