Apple’s iPhone 17 series has now gone on sale, with the lineup featuring the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max in addition to an all-new iPhone Air. The iPhone Air has received some criticism for its small 3,149 mAh battery, but real-life tests show that it’s a capable performer regardless.
As tested by XEETECHCARE, the iPhone Air manages to edge out its closest rival, Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge, in battery performance despite sporting a smaller battery. The Apple device manages a total time of 8h57m versus the Galaxy S25 Edge’s 8h45m. A minor differential perhaps but it’s important to note that the S25 Edge features a 3,900 mAh battery—24% larger than the iPhone Air’s.
These results are also supported by Tom’s Guide’s tests, which show the iPhone Air outlasting the Galaxy S25 Edge at both web surfing (12h02m vs 11h48m) and video streaming (81% after five hours vs the Samsung’s 67%)
Unsurprisingly, the iPhone Air has the worst battery life of its siblings. As tested by The Tech Chap, however, it’s only marginally outperformed by the vanilla iPhone 17. That phone has a 3,692 mAh battery yet lasted just twelve minutes longer than the iPhone Air (6h55m vs 6h43m).
