Apple’s next big round of software updates is almost here: today the RC (release candidate) versions of watchOS 26.1, tvOS 26.1, and more have arrived.
Next round of software updates is almost ready to ship
New Apple software updates have been in beta testing for just over a month, and they appear nearly ready for launch.
These forthcoming updates include:
- iOS 26.1
- iPadOS 26.1
- macOS Tahoe 26.1
- watchOS 26.1
- tvOS 26.1
- visionOS 26.1
- HomePod 26.1
Today Apple has debuted the RC versions of these updates for beta testers.
Based on Apple’s history, the public launches for these updates should arrive within the next week or so—give or take a couple days.
So far the most noteworthy changes discovered in the beta period have been limited to Apple’s three biggest platforms: iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.
These updates include new toggles to alter the Liquid Glass design, a big Apple Intelligence language expansion, plus the return of Slide Over on iPad, among other smaller updates.
For tvOS, watchOS, visionOS, and HomePod, changes have been minimal.
There’s a new Apple TV app icon, presumably to match the forthcoming more “vibrant” identity for the Apple TV streaming service. But the TV app itself has been unchanged in betas so far.
Bug fixes, security updates, and performance improvements may end up being the highlights for Apple’s “lesser” software platforms this time around. But we’ll keep you posted on any changes we discover.
