Joe Pyfer opened the pay-per-view with a second-round submission win over Abus Magomedov, showcasing his underrated and dangerous grappling by taking the veteran to the canvas and choking him out. That was followed by Youssef Zalal running through Top 10 mainstay Josh Emmett, turning a deft early level change into a first-round verbal submission win that pushed his record to 5-0 since returning to the UFC early last year. And in the final non-title clash of the card, former light heavyweight titleholder Jiri Prochazka rallied from being down two rounds to secure a third-round knockout win over Khalil Rountree Jr., keeping himself in the thick of the championship chase in the process.
In the co-main event, bantamweight titleholder Merab Dvalishvili became just the eighth champion in UFC history to successfully defend their title three-times un a calendar year, utilizing 20 takedowns, solid striking and constant pressure to earn a clean sweep of the scorecards against game challenger Cory Sandhagen. It was the 14th consecutive victory for “The Machine,” who is now just two wins shy of equaling Anderson Silva’s record for most consecutive victories in UFC history, and before leaving the Octagon, he lobbied for a chance to compete again in December.
And in the main event, Alex Pereira reclaimed his place atop the light heavyweight division, mauling Magomed Ankalaev in 80 seconds, hurting him with the first big shot he landed, pursuing the finish with intensity until the bout was halted.
