Smartphone manufacturers have solved the problem of their high-end products having poor runtimes by outfitting them with silicon-carbon cells, and from hereon, these companies are taking physical capacities to new heights. According to the latest rumor, one Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 flagship is being tested with a 9,000mAh battery.
The largest battery in a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 flagship is a 7,500mAh cell present on the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max
A rumor posted by Weibo tipster Digital Chat Station talks about a flagship that currently houses a gargantuan-sized 9,000mAh battery. Of course, to keep the entire revelation a mystery, the exact model name has yet to be mentioned, but assuming that no compromises are made on the paper specifications, cramming a near-10,000mAh battery in a premium smartphone that houses large camera sensors and other parts is an impressive feat.
Currently, the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max has the biggest battery capacity for any Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5-powered flagship out there at 7,500mAh, but the disappointing aspect is that it only beats the iPhone 17 Pro Max by 5 minutes in a battery drain test, hinting at the chipset’s poor efficiency, which Qualcomm gave up in exchange for raw performance. There are other factors that determine a smartphone’s runtime, but a 9,000mAh cell can pretty much offset those disadvantages.

Even if the tipster refuses to divulge the name of the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 flagship, it is no secret that Android phone makers are testing the limits of silicon-carbon batteries. Only recently, Realme incorporated a mammoth 15,000mAh battery in a concept smartphone while being only marginally thinner than the iPhone 16 Pro Max. Sadly, this specific hardware was the only impressive aspect of the device because the remaining internals were those of a mid-range handset.
Looking at how various Chinese companies have completely embraced silicon-carbon technology, it will be unsurprising if the tipster eventually confirms that the device is from one of these manufacturers. Unfortunately, we do not have those details right now, but once we do, we will update our readers accordingly.
