Gov. Mike Dunleavy has again received treatment for basal cell carcinoma, a common form of skin cancer, his office said Thursday.
An abrasion was visible on the governor’s forehead when he spoke at a public event in Anchorage on Thursday.
“For several years now the governor has had minor skin tumors removed,” Dunleavy spokesman Jeff Turner said in an email after the event. “This time they were removed from his forehead.”
“His message to all Alaskans is to make sure and use sunscreen,” Turner added.
The governor’s office did not immediately respond to additional questions about the procedure and the governor’s prognosis.
Dunleavy in 2019 also had basal cell carcinoma removed from his forehead, and then received treatment for the same condition in 2023. It is common for the condition to recur, according to medical experts.
