Alabama State University shut down campus operations Thursday morning because of a terroristic threat, the university said.
ASU did not disclose the nature of the threat in a statement.
“Alabama State University has received a terroristic threat directed at our campus. Out of an abundance of caution, the University has shut down campus operations until further notice.
“We are working in close coordination with the appropriate law enforcement agencies to assess the situation and to ensure the safety and security of our students, faculty, staff, and the broader ASU community.
“The safety of our Hornet family is our highest priority.”
Alabama State is one of three HBCUs that shut down operations because of terrorist threats Thursday.
Hampton University cancelled classes, athletic events, and all non-essential activities Thursday and Friday.
Hampton said students should limit movement around campus to essential activity, students living off-campus should not come to campus, and non-essential personnel, including faculty and staff, should leave campus.
Virginia State University announced an “urgent alert” Thursday morning that it was on lockdown “due to a potential threat.”
