AirPods 4 Are Going for Pennies, Amazon Clears Out Stock to Compete With Budget Earbuds

Amazon has pulled most of its Prime Day deals offline but there’s good news if you’ve been eyeing Apple products: The AirPods 4 (which only launched a few months ago) are still available at all-time low prices on Amazon while they’re sitting at full retail on Apple’s official website. You can grab the standard AirPods 4 for $89, down from $129, or upgrade to the active noise cancellation version for $118, slashed from $179. These discounts represent savings between 30 and 40 percent on earbuds that are barely out of their infancy, and if you know Apple’s pricing strategy, you know this doesn’t happen often.

Why You Should Bother with the AirPods 4

The biggest reason that people grab AirPods isn’t necessarily integration with the Apple ecosystem, though that is a part of it. It is the seamless experience: you open the case near your iPhone and they are instantly paired. No menu-searching in the Bluetooth section, no ritual with the pairing mode. The AirPods 4 reinforce this seamlessness and deliver meaningful upgrades that improve your daily listening experience.

Both variants of the AirPods 4 have the H2 chip, the same chip that is found in Apple’s higher-end AirPods Pro. The chip processes computational audio at lightning-fast speed, and allows for technologies like personalized spatial audio that changes to fit the unique shape of your ears. Spatial audio allows for a three-dimensional soundstage so if you are listening to movies or playing a game, the sound is as if it is coming at specific spots instead of simply blasted directly into your ear canals. The technology employs dynamic head tracking so that the sound remains pinned to your device, so if you look away with a show playing on your iPad, the sound adjusts as if the sound is originating from the face of the device itself.

The $89 standard AirPods 4 provide 30 hours’ combined battery life if we count in the USB-C charging case. That works out to around five hours a charge on the earbuds themselves and a further four full recharges by way of the case. The switch to USB-C is a logical upgrade in the face of Apple’s wider move away from Lightning, so that you can use the same cable that will work with your iPhone 15 or later or your iPad and also put it to work with your AirPods.

The ANC-equipped version at $118 brings active noise cancellation to an open-ear design which is impressive from an engineering perspective. Traditional ANC works by using microphones to detect external noise and then generating inverse sound waves to cancel it out. Doing this effectively without silicone ear tips that seal your ear canal is tricky, but Apple has managed to reduce ambient noise significantly even with the open fit. Adaptive audio automatically blends ANC and transparency mode based on your environment, so if you’re walking down a busy street, it lets in just enough sound to keep you aware of traffic while still reducing the rumble of engines and chatter.

Each also boasts IPX4 rated water and sweat proofing, and can therefore cope with splashes and spin classes with no issues at all. The force sensor built into the stem lets you play back music, skip songs, and pick up calls with minimal pinching and squeezing, with your phone itself staying in your pocket.

These Amazon rates will get you the newest sound technology by Apple at a price significantly lower than others paid a few weeks ago during the holiday season. Make sure you don’t miss that opportunity before it expires.
