Ads And Installations Take Over San Diego

It’s that time of year again.

Downtown San Diego’s Gaslamp District has again become flooded with advertisements for some of the most popular film and television franchises attending this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. Walking down 5th Avenue toward the convention center, con-goers are being inundated with marketing material from the likes of FX, Hulu, Prime Video, HBO, DC, AMC, Starz, Comedy Central, Paramount+ and more.

Unlike last year’s Paramount takeover, the studios and streamers seem to have more of an equal presence ahead of this year’s event that begins in earnest Thursday. That means there is a ton to see, from buildings wrapped with ads for the Anne Rice Universe and The Walking Dead on AMC+, Gen V on Prime Video and Alien: Earth on FX (in a massive and coveted spot on the side of the Hilton Bayfront) to train cars promoting Hulu’s adult animation collection and even a fun homage to The Bad Guys 2 atop the iconic Gaslamp sign. Make sure to check out all the light-pole signage, too.

Even though Marvel is skipping its usual Hall H panel this year, the studio still opted for a light presence in the surrounding area to help promote Fantastic Four: The First Steps with an activation in partnership with Google Play. Fans will also spot a huge promo on the west side of the Hilton Gaslamp, which can help guide them to the activation space below.

As for DC, the studio is throwing its weight behind Season 2 of HBO Max’s Peacemaker with wrapped trains, light-pole signage, bus stop posters and a flashy activation called “Peacefest” at Nova night club.

Check out the signage below.
