Netflix’s new hostage show Rabbit, Rabbit sets Adam Driver’s first return to television in eight years. Though Driver rose to fame for his role as Kylo Ren in the Star Wars sequel trilogy from 2015 to 2019, followed by his Oscar-nominated performances in BlacKkKlansman (2018) and Marriage Story (2019), his breakout role came in the HBO show Girls from 2012 to 2017, which earned him three Emmy nominations.
Now, Netflix has announced that Adam Driver will star in the new series Rabbit, Rabbit, created by Peter Craig – who co-wrote The Batman, Top Gun: Maverick, and The Town – and directed by Philip Barantini (Netflix’s Adolescence).
The show’s synopsis reads, “An escaped convict takes hostages in an effort to bargain for his freedom — finding himself in an unmanageable social experiment with his captives and a poker match with a veteran negotiator.” See Netflix’s post announcing the show below:
Though not explicitly stated, Adam Driver will likely be playing the lead role of the escaped convict who takes hostages in an attempt to bargain for his freedom. The hostage crime drama is described as in the vein of Dog Day Afternoon. Filming could begin as early as next year.
Rabbit, Rabbit is created by Peter Craig, known for co-writing the screenplays for The Town (2010), The Batman (2022), and Top Gun: Maverick (2022) – the last of which earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay. On television, he has also created the Apple TV+ crime drama Dope Thief.
Rabbit, Rabbit will be directed by Philip Barantini, known for his intense single-take style, as seen in the 2021 film Boiling Point and all four episodes of Netflix’s miniseries Adolescence, which won him an Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Limited Series.
Since Barantini shot both Boiling Point and Adolescence using his single-take style, it’s likely that each episode of Rabbit, Rabbit will also be shot in one continuous take. Driver, known for his array of intense performances, seems like the perfect fit for the lead role in Rabbit, Rabbit.
