Acer’s 16-inch Swift Air weighs less than the 13-inch MacBook Air

A second Windows laptop has demonstrated that there is potential for the MacBook Air to be even lighter. Earlier this year, we saw a 14-inch Asus laptop come in lighter than the 13-inch MacBook Air, and now Acer has done the same with a 16-inch model.

Interestingly, the Acer Swift Air 16 manages to be lighter than the MacBook Air despite being thicker, at 0.63-inches against 0.44 inches …

To be fair, Acer’s latest laptop doesn’t compete with the MacBook Air when it comes to either performance or battery life. While the company touts it as being powerful enough for local AI apps, it’s based on an AMD processor which can’t match the M4 chip for its combination of performance and power efficiency.

At the core of the Swift Air 16 is the latest generation of AMD Ryzen™ AI 300 Series processors, featuring up to an AMD Ryzen™ AI 7 350 processor, enabling seamless execution of local AI applications and enhanced responsiveness while maintaining low power consumption […]

The laptop delivers exceptional responsiveness, multitasking capabilities, and efficient battery life of up to 13 hours

The Verge notes that it also gains a little weight if you opt for the OLED version.

Weighing in at 2.18 pounds / 0.99kg with an IPS display or 2.43 pounds / 1.1kg with its optional OLED.

All the same, it’s an impressive achievement. I’m happy to see other brands keep pressure on Apple to continue making MacBooks lighter.

As for the earlier ZenBook, I tested this for myself back in February and said that I would like to see the MacBook Air copy four of its features.
