A.J. Brown Cleared, Tyreek Ready, Week 1 Chaos Begins

It’s here. Week 1 of the NFL season has officially arrived. Draft season is basically behind us, rosters are set, and now the focus shifts to who’s healthy, who’s trending up, and who’s already making fantasy managers nervous. Let’s break down everything you need to know from the last 24 hours.

Browns beat writer Mary Kay Cabot says rookie RB Quinshon Judkins could finally rejoin the team this week. The second-rounder did not sign his rookie deal and spent all summer away after a legal mess, so he’s starting from behind. Even if he reports, it will take time before he’s in shape and integrated into the offense. For fantasy, Jerome Ford and rookie Dylan Sampson remain the Browns’ lead backs for now.

Jaguars coach Liam Coen says the staff is still figuring out how much Travis Hunter will play on both sides of the ball in Week 1. Hunter missed time in the preseason with an upper-body injury, so expectations should be tempered for his debut. He’s still a WR3 option, but don’t expect a full workload out of the gate.

The Steelers inked RB Jaylen Warren to a two-year deal with $12 million guaranteed. The former UDFA has earned it, but his fantasy upside is still capped by limited touchdown production. He opens the year as Pittsburgh’s RB1, though rookie Kaleb Johnson looms. Warren is a flex option, but Week 1 against the Jets’ defense is a tough spot to fire him up. Kaleb Johnson managers shouldn’t overreact to this news. The Steelers have been expected to use a timeshare all along.

Stafford Set to Go

Sean McVay expects Matthew Stafford (back) to start in Week 1 against the Texans. He’ll likely be managed through practice all year, but for now he’s cleared. Stafford is best treated as a very risky QB2. However, his presence is very good for Puka Nacua and Davante Adams.

Achane Trending Positive

Mike McDaniel said De’Von Achane (calf) will practice this week and should be good to go for Week 1 versus the Colts. After averaging over 16.5 touches per game last season, Achane is a locked-in RB1 if active. The calf issue is worth monitoring, but things look positive. If you don’t have Achane on your roster, there’s no reason to hold Ollie Gordon II. It’s wise to consider cutting him.

The Dolphins say Tyreek (oblique) will play Sunday against the Colts. He practiced Monday and barring setbacks is a lineup lock. The Colts defense struggled against the pass last year, so Hill should feast.

The Eagles star WR wasn’t even listed on Monday’s injury report. That’s huge after weeks of hamstring talk. He’s a strong WR1/2 play against a Cowboys defense without Micah Parsons and possibly Trevon Diggs. Expect Brown to be busy Thursday night.

The Ravens TE didn’t practice Monday as he recovers from foot surgery. He avoided injured reserve, so a return is coming soon, but he’s unlikely to be a Week 1 option. Even when he does play, he’s just a secondary piece behind Mark Andrews.

The Chargers RB says he’s “ramping up” toward being ready for Friday’s opener in Brazil against the Chiefs. He insists his July 4 fireworks incident didn’t affect his vision, but the time off raises questions about his workload. He may play, but expect some split touches early.

Mooney Trending Upward

Darnell Mooney (shoulder) participated in Monday’s jog-through and is considered day-to-day. We’ll know more Wednesday when practice reports drop, but signs point to him being ready against Tampa Bay.

The Niners WR was spotted practicing Monday, a big step forward after a month-long calf issue. His status for Week 1 versus Seattle will be clearer midweek, but he’s trending the right way.

Khalil Shakir practiced last week after missing most of August with a high-ankle sprain. He’ll need to get back into football shape, but Josh Allen should have him ready for Week 1 against the Ravens. Shakir is a WR4 with minimal upside.

Week 1 is officially here, and the news is rolling in fast. A.J. Brown and Tyreek Hill are cleared, De’Von Achane looks good to go, and Matthew Stafford is starting despite back concerns. Meanwhile, Jaylen Warren got paid, Quinshon Judkins might finally report, and Khalil Shakir is back in action. Fantasy managers, the long wait is almost over.
