Following multiple years of rumors, this was the year that Apple’s Pro iPhones finally got a vapor chamber to help dissipate heat. If you’ve never really looked into or understood how this component works, the video below will tell you everything you need to know.
Cool tech, literally
Here’s how Apple’s SVP of Worldwide Marketing Greg Joswiak described the iPhone 17 Pro’s vapor chamber during the company’s Awe Dropping event earlier this month:
“Deionized water is sealed inside the vapor chamber, which is laser-welded into the aluminum chassis. This efficiently moves heat away from the components, allowing for higher sustained performance. The vapor chamber directs heat strategically through the system, where it is efficiently dissipated and released by the forged aluminum unibody.”
While the accompanying 3D graphics and renders may have helped us get the gist of how the vapor chamber works, more technically inclined users may have been left wanting more.
Thankfully, the YouTube channel Know Art has a very detailed video that showcases and explains, step by step, how these vapor chambers are created and, more importantly, how they actually work.
Watch the video below:
While Know Art’s video was made during a factory visit to an Apple competitor, and a few technical and manufacturing details may differ from Apple’s solution, it still feels pretty aligned with how Joswiak described Apple’s own vapor chamber for the iPhone 17 Pro.
It is also worth remembering that a few weeks ahead of the event, leaker Majin Bu published a photo of the iPhone’s supposed vapor chamber component, which looks very similar to what Apple showed during its own presentation.
