Stephen Colbert got another big round of applause, this time from The Late Show studio audience, after winning an Emmy on Sunday night.
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert won the Emmy for Outstanding Talk Series at the awards, marking the show’s first ever win in the category.
On Tuesday’s show, he thanked his late-night peers in the category.
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, which was canceled two months ago, beat The Daily Show and Jimmy Kimmel Live! Interestingly, The Daily Show host Jon Stewart is also an exec producer of The Late Show.
“I want to toss a bouquet of admiration to the other nominees in our category, my dear friends, Jon Stewart and Jimmy Kimmel. These two fellas, old friends, unbelievably talented. [The are] just two princes. Kimmel even put up a for your consideration billboard…that said I’m voting for Stephen. That is so nice, so nice,” Colbert said.
Kimmel had even campaigned for Colbert after he was axed by CBS, putting up a billboard that said “I’m voting for Stephen”.
“To pay him back next year, I’m going to do the exact same thing,” Colbert said before cutting to a mocked up image (see above).
Colbert also thanked his entire 200-strong staff. “This award belongs all 200 of the incredibly hard working people who make this show,” he said. “First and foremost, the writers of this show… the stage crew, production staff, talent, segment editors, the band, cold field, control and graphics, research, footage, digital, accounting, legal, wardrobe, makeup, security, maintenance, assistants and interns, and, of course, the audience department, who let in all of you gorgeous people every night.”
