Steelers vs. Seahawks: What they’re saying in Seattle after win

The Seattle Seahawks and their fans returned to the West Coast pleased after spoiling the Pittsburgh Steelers’ home opener Sunday.

The Seahawks took over in the second half of the game and defeated the Steelers 31-17 at Acrisure Stadium.

Reporter Bob Condotta of the Seattle Times wrote “there were a lot of moments to celebrate” in the Seahawks win.

“There was the happy wonderment at scoring one of the more bizarre touchdowns in the franchise’s 50-year history, watching the rebirth of the running game and the emergence of the offense as a whole, and turning former Seahawks superstar DK Metcalf almost irrelevant in his supposed revenge game against his old teammates,” Condotta wrote.

Seattle also saw some noteworthy plays: The Seahawks scored an opening-drive touchdown, something that hasn’t happened in more than a year.

Seattle Sports writer Stacy Rost wrote the Seahawks “got out of their own way, and back to their identity.” The team was able to self-correct, she wrote.

“After converting their first two third-down attempts Sunday in Pittsburgh, the Seahawks went 0 for 5 up until the half,” Rost wrote. “Despite having outgained the Steelers 188 net yards to 69, two interceptions from Darnold proved costly, giving Pittsburgh an extra 11 points.

“But the Seahawks reset in the second half, going 4 for 7 on third down (including conversions on third-and-14 and third-and-19).”

The Seahawks defense also hit the ground running after two disappointing plays from cornerback Riq Woolen in Week 1.

“They held the Steelers to field goals on their first two possessions, including one where Pittsburgh took over at Seattle’s 44-yard line thanks to a Darnold pick,” Rost wrote. “A touchdown to DK Metcalf was the only one allowed all day. When the Seahawks’ offense needed a chance to come back in the second half, the Seahawks’ defense forced a punt, an interception, and another punt.”

Ouch!

The Steelers (1-1) take on the New England Patriots this coming Sunday afternoon.
