Trump approval ratings: Latest numbers show 5 states where president has highest approval

Donald Trump’s approval ratings are net positive in half the states, according to the president’s latest approval poll.

The poll from Morning Consult shows Trump has a positive approval rating in 25 states, down from 27 in the same survey conducted three months ago. Dropping from the list were North Carolina and Nevada, where more people now disapprove than approve of the job the president is doing. Only one 2024 swing state – Georgia – now shows Trump with a positive net approval rating and another, Arizona, has an even rating.

The five states giving Trump the highest approval ratings are:

  • Wyoming – 62% approval
  • Idaho – 60% approval
  • West Virginia – 60% approval
  • South Dakota – 60% approval
  • Alabama – 59% approval

Overall, Morning Consult found 45% of voters approve of Trump’s job performance compared to 52% who disapprove. The survey was conducted Sept. 6-8 among 2,201 registered voters.

Overall ratings

President Trump’s overall job approval rating is a net negative, according to Real Clear Politics’ average of major polls. The average, which includes results from Aug. 21 – Sept. 11, shows the president with an approval rating of 45% compared to 51% disapproval for a net of negative 6.

Only two of the major polls, one from RMG Research and another from Daily Mail, has Trump with net positive ratings of plus 2 and plus 10, respectively.

At the end of Trump’s first term, the president’s approval rating was negative 17 points. At the start of his second term four years later, Trump’s approval rating was 50% compared to a disapproval rating of 45% for a positive 5 net.
