3 deputies killed after explosion reported at East LA sheriff’s training facility – NBC Los Angeles

At least three deputies were killed after an explosion was reported early Friday at an LA County Sheriff’s Department training facility in East Los Angeles.

The explosion is believed to have occurred at the Biscailuz Center Training Academy on the 1000 block of North Eastern Avenue.

The incident was reported at around 7:30 a.m.

NewsChopper4 was over the scene where a fire truck and a rescue ambulance were seen in the surrounding area.

“I am heartbroken to hear of the terrible tragedy that has unfolded today at an L.A. County Sheriff’s Department facility. I am closely tracking the situation as we learn more about what occurred and the condition of those affected,” Supervisor Kathryn Barger said. “My heart is heavy, and my thoughts are with the brave men and women of the Sheriff’s Department during this difficult time. I stand with them and their families as they navigate the hours and days ahead,”

Kristi Noem, the U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security, said that the Department of Homeland Security was working with state and federal law enforcement to respond to the explosion. “Updates will be provided as they become available. Pray for our law enforcement and their loved ones.”

Attorney General Pamela Bondi said in a social post that she spoke to U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli about the explosion.

Bondi said that federal agents are at the scene and we are working to learn more. “Please pray for the families of the sheriff’s deputies killed,” she added.

Supervisor Hilda Solis issued a statement about the explosion saying I am deeply saddened by the tragic incident that occurred this morning at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Biscailuz Training Academy in East Los Angeles. My heart goes out to the families, friends, and colleagues of the three individuals who lost  their lives in what appears to have been a devastating explosion.”
