BYU hoops had arguably the best JUCO prospect in the 2026 class on campus when KJ Perry was on campus September 11-12 for his official visit. He posted about his visit on Instagram.
Below is what KJ told me about his BYU visit and recruitment.
“Highlights of my visit were being able to watch practice and be on the same page with the coaching stuff. KY has a really good system that fits my play style. I think BYU plans to use me as a on ball defensive threat who can score and get his teammates involved.
Got to kick it with X (Xavion) and AJ most of the visit, they were very welcoming to BYU. I plan to commit to a school within the next 30 days. Overall really good visit but i got a couple more to take so we’ll see where home is!”
KJ has taken visits to SMU and USC and has visits planned in the coming weeks to TCU and Oregon. He has offers from those schools plus Kansas, NC State, Cincinnati, Cal, Arizona State, and several others.
Originally a member of the 2024 class, Perry was a 3-star prospect out of high school and committed to Cal State Northridge before he decided to go the JUCO route at Citrus College. Perry is a 6-foot-3 combo guard that can play either guard spot. This past year as a freshman, Perry averaged 17.5 points and 2.8 assists on 50% shooting from the floor and 35% from three. Perry averaged over 4 free throw attempts per game and 76% of his field goal attempts were from two, backing up the tape that his game is built first on using his explosiveness to get to the rim. Perry received mid-major and some high major offers during his freshman season, and the high major offers poured in after Perry impressed during the July live period. “He’s an explosive guard with a frame built for the next level and can get downhill at will, constantly putting pressure on the defense. He elevates on his jump shot from both mid-range and beyond the arc, making him a high-level offensive threat. On the defensive end, Perry also impressed by applying consistent pressure and disrupting opposing ball handlers.”
