The Super Mario Galaxy Movie was confirmed just a couple of days ago, with Nintendo revealing the first bit of promotional footage for the film. That footage revealed that Super Mario Galaxy will indeed be inspiring the film in some way, but specifics on the story are yet to be revealed. We’re not sure when Nintendo or NBC Universal will be sharing more, but we may have already gotten some new tidbits from another source.
The official social media account for Cinépolis El Salvador, a movie theater chain, shared the same teaser trailer that was featured in the most recent Nintendo Direct. That’s not the interesting part though, as the post came with some very intriguing text as well. The text posted alongside the teaser is as follows:
“New threats, old rivalries, and a battle that reaches the stars. Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Yoshi join forces against Wario and Bowser Jr.”
First off, we’re keeping this marked rumor as Nintendo and NBC Universal haven’t shared insight into the film’s expanded cast. With that said, the description posted by Cinépolis El Salvador certainly seems pretty specific when it comes to characters. It would be extremely odd to just name-drop two brand-new characters for the follow-up film without that information coming from some sort of valid source. This whole situation is equal parts fascinating and confusing.
After finding out that Old Spice did indeed leak the name of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie through branded products, we’re willing to at least entertain the idea of other leaks from various sources. With this potential leak coming from a theater chain, it wouldn’t be crazy to think they’d know a bit more about the film than Old Spice would!
