Dominik Mysterio is officially the best Mysterio in the family. Dirty Dom accomplished a feat that his father has not. Dominik won the AAA Mega Championship at Worlds Collide (Sep. 12, 2025). The main event had plenty of shenanigans and help from El Grande Americano to assist with victory.
Earlier in the evening, Dom rudely sassed Rey Mysterio to demand that his father put the AAA mega title around his waist. Finn Balor suggested that Dom prove himself by taking this match alone without backup.
Shocker. Balor was lying. After back and forth lucha libre action, Vikingo had momentum for a 450 splash. Dom was able to kick out, then reinforcements arrived. Balor and JD McDonagh stormed to the ring. Balor distracted the referee, and JD headbutt Vikingo. Dom struck with a Michinoku Driver, but that wasn’t enough to get the job done.
Balor slipped in a foreign object for Dom to place under his mask. That devious tactic backfired when Vikingo superkicked Dom. Dragon Lee arrived on the scene to fight Judgment Day. Rey joined the fracas with a chair. The good guys chased the hooligans to the back.
So, fair fight now? Wrong. Vikingo landed his 630 senton finisher. El Grande Americano came through the crowd to save Dom by pulling the referee out of the ring.
Dom capitalized on offense and connected on a frog splash. One problem though. The official was still down outside. The crowd eagerly chanted to 10 on the pinfall. A backup ref eventually arrived, but it was too late. Vikingo kicked out at 2.
Vikingo rallied for a head kick and a poison rana. El Grande Americano was within arm’s reach, so Vikingo tried to snatch that imposter’s mask. As Vikingo struggled to remove the mask, EGA slyly slid a foreign object into the ring. Dom loaded his mask again for a jumping headbutt. Frog splash. New champion.
Rey begrudgingly handed the spoils of war to his son. Dominik was not satisfied and bullied his father into placing the mega title around his waist. Dirty Dom cherished the moment to celebrate with Judgment Day and hug El Grande Americano.
For those curious about the fan reaction in Las Vegas, Dominik was the heavy favorite in support. Fans were boisterous on his behalf. They sang his Dirty Dom moniker, were furious when the backup referee didn’t count 3, and cheered in elation at the new champion being crowned. Vikingo was booed for the most part with a few supporters in the mix on his entrance. Based on the chants (culero, puto) throughout the evening, I’d guess that the audience was heavily skewed to Mexican. I can’t say whether the animosity for Vikingo has carried over into the mainstream audience in the USA or if this was just the same type of fans that have booed Vikingo at AAA shows in Mexico.
So, who’s up next to challenge Dominik? It seems like Penta is the man. He opened the show to declare that his goal is to win the AAA Mega Championship no matter who walks out with gold from the main event.
For my money, give us Dom versus Rey for the Mega Championship at Triplemania next year.
