6 Ring of Famers among former Broncos named Seniors category nominees for Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2026

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — A number of Broncos Ring of Famers have taken a step toward pro football’s highest honor.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame announced 162 nominees for the Class of 2026’s Seniors category, and six Broncos Ring of Famers earned spots on the list.

Ring of Famers Lionel Taylor, Rick Upchurch, Karl Mecklenburg, Goose Gonsoulin, Dennis Smith and Louis Wright were nominated for the honor, and Super Bowl XXXII and XXXIII champion Neil Smith was among the other former Broncos to make the list.

The Seniors Screening Committee will now reduce the list to 50 players in the coming weeks, and a separate Seniors Blue-Ribbon Committee will then make additional reductions.

Later in the fall, the same Seniors Blue-Ribbon Committee will select three Seniors as finalists for the Class of 2026.

Players are eligible for the Seniors category if their final game came no later than the 2000 season.

The Broncos last had a Seniors candidate inducted into the Hall of Fame when Randy Gradishar earned his bronze bust in 2024.
