A sports stadium in Cincinnati is cutting ties with a BBQ restaurant over comments a now former co-owner made following the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
TQL Stadium, the home of Cincinnati’s MLS team, announced on X Thursday night that it has terminated its relationship with Lucius Q, a local bbq restaurant.
“FC Cincinnati and TQL Stadium expect our vendors and partners to uphold the values of respect and tolerance that are core to our club’s identity,” the stadium said in a statement.
“We were founded on the idea that soccer unites, and we remain committed to ensuring that FCC is for all and that we provide a safe and welcoming environment for our patrons. Toward that end, we have terminated our relationship with Lucius Q.”
According to the ABC station in Cincinnati, Aaron Sharpe, a former co-owner of Lucius Q, appeared to say, “Good riddance! What a piece of [expletive],” on social media following Kirk’s death.
The station reports that those comments no longer appear on his social media, but he reportedly said in response to backlash, “If you think that threats of social media attacks on me or my business will in any way keep me silent about what I believe, you are sorely mistaken. I know exactly who I am and on what side of history I stand.”
Lucius Q BBQ posted on Facebook later that Aaron Sharpe is no longer associated with the restaurant.
“Aaron Sharpe is no longer associated with Lucius Q. We found the comments he made on his personal social media pages offensive and, as a result, have severed ties with him,” the post says.
Charlie Kirk died after being shot in Utah at the first stop of his American Comeback Tour on college campuses.
Kirk was shot in the neck while seated on a stool behind his “prove me wrong” table as he answered questions from a person in the audience about mass shootings.
President Donald Trump announced that the husband and father of two had died approximately two hours after he was shot.
Kirk was an outspoken supporter of Trump who founded Turning Point USA. His YouTube channel has more than than 3.84 million subscribers.
Kirk was born and raised in the Chicago suburbs and became politically active in politics in high school.
He briefly attended Harper College, located northwest of Chicago, but dropped out after Tea Party member Bill Montgomery convinced him his time would be better spent in political activism full time.
Tyler Robinson was arrested on Friday and is accused of assassinating Kirk.
